Dr. Christina H. Lee is the Professor and Acting Chair of the Department of Spanish and Portuguese at Princeton University.
First, tell us about your documents.
These are the documents that were sacked by the British from the Convent of San Pablo (today the Church of San Agustín) during their occupation of Manila 1762-1764 and are found in a number of repositories about the world. Details are here.
What are your goals for the projects?
We’re putting back together about 1500 manuscripts.
How are you recruiting or finding volunteers/collaborators?
We work with graduate students at Princeton University, have agreements with the University of the Philippines, and researchers from other institutions, including University of Santo Tomas.
Can you share your experience using FromThePage?
It’s been an invaluable resource to transcribe and translate documents.
What advice would you give to other institutions thinking about running a similar project?
Definitely consider FromThePage if you’re collaborating in projects that require transcriptions and/or translations.
